Real experiences from real travelers
The 3-day tour was perfectly organized. The camel trek at sunset in Merzouga was the highlight of my entire month in Morocco. Booking through this platform made the comparison so easy.
Everything from the Ait Ben Haddou stop to the night in the dunes was spectacular. Our driver was very professional and navigated the Atlas Mountains safely. Highly recommend the 4-day option if you have time.
The desert is stunning. Be prepared for a lot of time in the van, but the stops along the way like the Todra Gorge make it worth it. The camp was much more comfortable than I expected!
We booked a luxury private tour and it was worth every penny. The food at the camp was the best tagine we had in Morocco. Stargazing in the Sahara is something I will never forget.
The transition from Marrakech to the desert was seamless. Our guide was knowledgeable about the Berber culture. The sandboarding was a fun surprise!
I was worried about the heat, but the winter timing was perfect. The Erg Chebbi dunes are massive and the sunset is like nothing else on earth. Great value for money.
Une expérience inoubliable. Le campement était très propre et l'accueil des Berbères était très chaleureux. Les paysages changent toutes les heures.
I thought it might be too 'touristy' but it felt very authentic. Listening to the drum music around the fire under the stars was magical. A very well-run tour.
Everything you need to know for your journey
The drive is approximately 560km and takes about 9-10 hours of total driving time. Tours spread this over 3 or 4 days with overnight stops in the Dades or Ouarzazate valleys to make it comfortable.
No, the camel trek usually lasts 1 to 1.5 hours each way and is suitable for beginners. Most tours also offer a 4x4 transfer to the camp for those who prefer not to ride camels.
Standard camps typically have shared bathroom facilities outside the tents and simpler bedding. Luxury camps feature private en-suite bathrooms with hot showers, high-end linens, and more elaborate decor.
Pack layers (it gets cold at night), a scarf for wind/sand, comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen, a power bank, and any personal medications. Don't forget your camera!
Most tours include breakfast and dinner. Lunch is typically at local restaurants along the route and is usually an additional cost of 10-15 USD per day.
Signal is available in the village of Merzouga, but it becomes very weak or non-existent once you enter the deep dunes of Erg Chebbi. Most camps do not have Wi-Fi.
While technically possible, a 2-day tour involves 20 hours of driving in 48 hours and is not recommended. 3 days is the absolute minimum to enjoy the experience without exhaustion.
Yes, these tours are very popular with solo travelers. Shared group tours provide a great way to meet people, and the guides are very respectful and professional.
The best times are Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November) when temperatures are moderate. Summer can be extremely hot (45°C+), and Winter nights can drop below freezing.
